Bad Piggies (for Android)

Bad Piggies, Rovio's buzzworthy follow-up to Angry Birds, will probably not appeal to the same casual gaming crowd that's addicted to catapulting birds, but it's a very good game in other ways. It's slower, more thoughtful, more skill-based.

Bad Piggies features the same green pigs you were probably trying to knock down inAngry Birds, and the same UI sensibilities. However this time, your goal is to build a vehicle to propel your pig through an obstacle course, collecting crates and stars along the way.?

If you enjoyed the physics element in Rovio's other app Amazing Alex, then Bad Piggies will leave you hooked. Personally, I found it frustratingly difficult and switched to the brainless Angry Birds for a break.

Gameplay
At the start of each level you're given a toolbox of items?wooden boxes (identical to the ones in Angry Birds obstacles), umbrellas, balloons, wheels, and more?from which you can build a vehicle that ideally takes your pig through all the stars and points-based items in your landscape. You swipe to drag the items into a grid formation to build your vehicle, tap a checkmark, and watch your Rube Goldberg machine set off. You can redo a level as many times as you like. Just like in Angry Birds and Amazing Alex, you can earn one to three stars. One star will let you move on to the next level, and there are 90 in all, though most of you will probably aim for a perfect score.

Bad Piggies is slow-moving, even slower than Rovio's other physics game, Amazing Alex. The vehicles roll through landscapes rather slowly (compared to flung Angry Birds, anyway) so if you need to rebuild your vehicle, it can take several minutes finishing a level. That's a long time in casual gaming land. If you simply can't figure out how to build the right vehicle, you can power up by tapping Hire a Mechanic (in Angry Birds the equivalent is the Mighty Eagle). A mechanic simply builds the contraption for you. You get 3 mechanics for free just by liking the Bad Piggies Facebook page, but after that you'll need to open your wallet. However, you can keep hiring mechanics, starting from $1.99 for ten.

I never made it to the four promised sandbox stages, which apparently let you use any sort of item to build a vehicle and collect crates.

Fun, But the Pigs Are No Birds
Bad Piggies is a high-quality game, but it won't replace Angry Birds. Instead of half-attentively catapulting birds like in the latter, Bad Piggies requires your complete attention to solve puzzle after puzzle. A lot of people try to draw comparisons to Angry Birds, but it's much more similar to Amazing Alex, and will appeal to the same crowd that would rather solve a puzzle than race to the finish line.

Legal language pivot of Ind. abortion drug fight

(AP) ? A legal loophole could become the latest weapon in the fight over abortion rights as opponents push Indiana to rewrite a law that defines abortion clinics so it includes facilities offering the procedure without surgery by prescribing a pill.

As many as eight other states could face similar battles over semantics.

The move would potentially affect women's health providers that previously have been untouched by laws meant to limit access to abortions. It's the latest fight over abortion rights in a state that passed the first law nationwide meant to deny Planned Parenthood federal funding for general health services.

Anti-abortion activists and abortion rights supporters alike expect the drug, marketed as Mifeprex, to be the subject of legislation in Indiana. But other states also may have to re-examine murky wording of laws regulating the drug.

Initially known as RU-486, the abortion pill was introduced in France in 1988, and gained approval of the Food and Drug Administration on Sept. 28, 2000. Thirty-nine states already have laws that in some way restrict the drug's use.

"In general terms, there need to be tighter regulations on the abortion pill," said Indiana Sen. Travis Holdman, R-Markle, who earlier this year unsuccessfully sponsored a bill that would have added restrictions on drug-induced abortions in Indiana.

Indiana's dispute comes on the heels of a lawsuit over a 2011 Indiana law that would have denied Medicaid funds to Planned Parenthood because it performs abortions. A legal challenge is still wending its way through federal court.

Unsatisfied, Indiana anti-abortion activists are going after the abortion pill. Earlier this month, Indiana Right to Life asked the state to investigate whether a Planned Parenthood clinic in Lafayette is violating state law by performing abortions without a license.

Indiana law essentially defines abortion as the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy. But to qualify as an abortion clinic under the law, a freestanding facility must perform surgical abortions.

Indiana Right to Life questioned whether the clinic, which administers Mifeprex, meets state standards for inspections and licensing that are required of other abortion clinics.

The attorney general's office said any investigation would be up to the Department of Health, who said the clinic isn't under its purview because it is not required to be licensed.

"We believe Indiana's abortion law is at conflict with itself and that Planned Parenthood is exploiting that conflict to expand its abortion business," said Mike Fichter, president and CEO of Indiana Right to Life. He said the organization believes medication abortions should fall under state licensing and inspection requirements.

Ten locations offer abortions in Indiana, Planned Parenthood of Indiana President Betty Cockrum said, including four Planned Parenthood clinics and six private offices. The Lafayette clinic is the sole clinic in the state that offers only medication abortion, she said.

"There is no argument that medication abortion is in fact an abortion," Cockrum said. But, she added, state law clearly defines an abortion clinic as a freestanding clinic where surgical abortions are performed. Lafayette is the sole clinic that offers only drug-induced abortions, she said.

Holdman said he thought the wording of Indiana's abortion law was ambiguous. Rules for the use of the abortion pill are "not like rules for other abortions," he said.

Indiana is one of four states, along with Louisiana, Maryland and Missouri, where the restrictions on abortion clinics are clearly limited to surgical abortion, Elizabeth Nash, state issues manager for the New York-based Guttmacher Institute, said in an email Friday. In five additional states, the law isn't clear, she said. Arizona and Arkansas both modified their laws in 2011 to apply to both medication and surgical abortion. The Institute is an abortion rights group focused on sexual and reproductive health research.

The procedure, which works during the first nine weeks of pregnancy, involves swallowing Mifeprex, known chemically as mifepristone. The pill causes an embryo to detach from the uterine wall, and a second pill, misoprostol, is used two days later to cause contractions and push the embryo out of the uterus.

Nationally, the drug is available only through clinics, hospitals and physicians, but women can complete the abortion process at home.

Fichter and Cockrum both said they expect Indiana legislators to take up regulation of Mifeprex early in 2013, and Holdman said he still believes the state should require that a woman see a doctor in person because of the drug's potentially dangerous side effects.

Six states already have similar requirements, according to the Guttmacher Institute, though National Right to Life gives the number as eight. But Right to Life wants to restrict the use of telemedicine to administer Mifeprex in every state, said Mary Spaulding Balch, the national organization's director of state legislation.

Abortion rights supporters oppose such a ban, saying it will reduce access to abortions for women in remote, rural areas.

A report released earlier this year by the Indiana State Department of Health found that nearly one in five abortions in 2010 was drug-induced. A 2011 study by the Guttmacher Institute ? based on 2008 data ? found the proportion of such procedures increased from 14 percent to 17 percent of all abortions between 2005 and 2008.

Mars rover finds first evidence of water: a river of it

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida | Thu Sep 27, 2012 8:33pm EDT

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - NASA's Mars rover, Curiosity, dispatched to learn if the most Earth-like planet in the solar system was suitable for microbial life, has found clear evidence its landing site was once awash in water, a key ingredient for life, scientists said Thursday.

Curiosity, a roving chemistry laboratory the size of a small car, touched down on August 6 inside a giant impact basin near the planet's equator. The primary target for the two-year mission is a three-mile (five-km) -high mound of layered rock rising from the floor of Gale Crater.

Scientists suspect the mound, known as Mount Sharp, is the remains of sediment that once completely filled the crater. Analysis of a slab of rock located between the crater's north rim and the base of Mount Sharp indicate a fast-moving stream of water once flowed there.

Images taken by Curiosity and released on Thursday show rounded stones cemented into the rock, which rises like a piece of jack-hammered sidewalk from the planet's surface.

The stones inside the rock are too big to have been moved by wind, Curiosity scientist Rebecca Williams, with the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, told reporters on a conference call.

"The consensus of the science team is that these are water-transported gravel in a vigorous stream," she said.

The rock is believed to be from the floor of an ancient stream which was once between ankle- and knee-deep.

The analysis is based on telephoto images taken by the rover, which is en route to a patch of land named Glenelg where three different types of rock intersect.

Scientists have not yet decided if the slab of rock warrants a chemical analysis, or if there are better targets for Curiosity to look for the building blocks of life and the minerals to preserve it.

"The question about habitability goes beyond the simple observation of water on Mars," said lead scientist John Grotzinger at the California Institute of Technology.

"Certainly flowing water is a place where microorganisms could have lived. This particular kind of rock may or may not be a good place to preserve those components that we associate with a habitable environment," he said.

The $2.5 billion Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity mission is NASA's first astrobiology mission since the 1970s-era Viking probes.

Do we know how many and what can be done for homeless children?

Cllr. Pat Crimmins

Response:
Crisis Intervention Service
Background Information
In the ten Local Health Offices that compromise the former EHRA
(Eastern Health Board) Region the Crisis Intervention Service (CIS)
provides an out of hours emergency social work service to young people
aged under 18 years who are in crisis. The service was established in
1992 and originally responded to young people between the ages of 12
and 18 years. Since 2005 the CIS was expanded to include all children
up to the age of 18 years.

The service is compromised of:

- A day Social Work Team.

- An Emergency Social Work Service which is available from Monday to
Sunday between 6.00p.m. and 6.00a.m. and each Saturday/Sunday and
Public Holiday from 9.00a.m. to 5.00p.m. all year round.

- A Night Reception Centre which is provided in Lefroy House for young
people who regularly present to the Out of Hours service. The service
is available from 5.00p.m. to 11.00p.m. and provides one to one
support with meals and showers for young people. This service is also
available to young people who are not availing of the Out of Hours
service.

- Emergency Foster Care Families who are available to provide a place
of safety as required for three nights for children under the age of
12 years of age.

- Seven emergency residential beds available on a night by night basis
at Lefroy House, Eden Quay for young people aged between 12 to 17
years of age.

- One emergency residential bed available on a night by night basis at
Sherrard House Residential Unit, North Circular Road for young girls
aged between 12 to 17 years of age.

- Four emergency beds available for a period of two weeks with CIS
designated Foster Care/Supported Lodgings for young people aged
between 12 to 17 years of age.

- The Crisis Intervention Service Partnership (CISP) which is an
Outreach Service in partnership between the Health Service Executive
and Focus Ireland. It was developed to ensure that there is a
comprehensive range of services available to support young people out
of home or availing of emergency accommodation. The CISP team is
available 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. The Partnership works
with the local area social work teams to monitor the risk and welfare
of the young person while out of home. The Partnership is the internal
co-ordinator within the CIS services to ensure that there is overall
capacity within the service so that it can respond to ongoing demands.
The service works up individual plans with each young person designed
to ensure their welfare is being monitored, and that they are linked
with the appropriate supports. The service works closely with Focus
Ireland Outreach to provide out of hours supports pending placement in
emergency accommodation.

Referrals are received to the Crisis Intervention Service by telephone
from service providers working at night, for example An Garda
Siochana, Hospitals, Ambulance Services. Referrals are accepted in
relation to:

-? Concerns regarding the immediate welfare of children.

-? Young people in crisis seeking emergency accommodation.

- Young people who are identified by the Garda National Immigration
Bureau as separated children seeking asylum.

The Out of Hours is an intervention service and provides an emergency
response at night. All details of contacts with children are passed to
the local social work team by the start of the working day. The local
social work team are the case managers and will follow up on any
further assessments or interventions necessary.

The remit of the Crisis Intervention Service is to respond to crisis
situations whereby a child or young person requires immediate
placement, either due to child protection concerns, where there is a
breakdown in family relationships, placement breakdowns or due to
accommodation issues. CIS aims to prevent children or young people
from having to access emergency care unnecessarily. Where it is
appropriate, CIS tries to place children or young people with
alternative family members or friends or mediate between
children/young people and parents where there is a breakdown in family
relations. The Crisis Intervention Service put a significant amount of
effort into ensuring that placing a child or young person within
emergency residential units or foster care is a last resort.

Summary of Admissions to Crisis Intervention Service 2011
During the year 2011, the total number of children who were
accommodated in CIS emergency placements was 288. This figure relates
to 109 children aged 12 years and under and 179 young people aged
12-17 years.

The breakdown for reasons for admission for both age categories is
outlined below.

Reasons for admission for children aged under 12 years:

Reason for referral % of all admissions
Garda Invoked Section 12 76.3%
Social Worker 8%
Immigration 6.1%
Hospital referral 6.1%
In need of medical attention 2.6%
Relationship breakdown at home >1 (0.88)%
Homeless 0
Total 100%

Reasons for admission to CIS for 12-17 year olds, 2011:
Reason for referral % of all referred
Relationship breakdown 50.3%
Behavioural problems 15%
Child protection 10%
Residential Placement breakdown 9.5%
Seeking accommodation 4.5%
Homeless 3.4%
Criminal behaviour 2.8%
Foster placement breakdown 1.7%
Immigration 1.1%
Other 1.7%
Total 100%

Summary of Admissions to CIS from January- June 2012
During the 1st and 2nd quarter of 2012, a total of 141 children/young
people were referred to the CIS for emergency accommodation.

Between January-June 2012, 48 individual children aged 12 years and
younger were placed in CIS emergency foster placements. The reasons
for admissions/referrals are outlined below.

Reasons for admission for children aged under 12 years:
Reason for referral % of all admissions
Child Protection/Claims of abuse 73%
Parent unable to care for child 12.5%
Immigration 10.4%
Hospital referral 0%
In need of medical attention 0%
Foster Placement breakdown 4.1%
Homeless 0%
Total 100%

Between January-June 2012, 93 individual young people aged 12-17 years
of age were placed in CIS emergency residential/foster care/supported
lodgings placements. The reasons for admissions/referrals are outlined
below.

Reasons for admissions to CIS for 12-17 year olds January-June 2012:
Reason for referral % of all referred
Family Relationship breakdown 68%
Behavioural problems 2.1%
Child protection 16.1%
Residential Placement breakdown 6.4%
Homeless 1%
Criminal behaviour 1.%
Foster placement breakdown 3.2%
Immigration /SCSA 2.1%
Total 100%

Conclusion:

-? As demonstrated in the above tables, the majority of referrals to
CIS emergency accommodation for young people aged 12-17 years of age
relate to family relationship breakdowns. This phrase relates to
situations whereby a parent/guardian is stating that they are refusing
to have their child return to the family home due to the young person
engaging in anti-social behaviour such as being under the influence of
substances unknown, being aggressive and involved in criminalised
behaviour.

- The young person is in need of immediate accommodation on the night
due to the parent/guardian?s decision not to let them return to their
home; so technically while are they are in need of emergency
accommodation, the young person and their parents are not presenting
as ?homeless? as their parents/guardians have a place of residency,
but are refusing access to their child. The CIS is clear that when
young people are presenting in such circumstances or where the primary
referral reason is that they are in need of accommodation due to other
factors that are not related to being ?homeless? they are classified
as either ?seeking accommodation? or ?family relationship breakdown?.

- The CIS is aware that the referencing of young people as ?seeking
accommodation? due to relationship/placement breakdowns is open to
differential interpretation.

- Where there is a young person whose primary reason for referral to
CIS is because they and their parents/guardians are homeless; they
have no accommodation or home address, then they are classified as
homeless in CIS statistics.

- No children aged 12 years of age and under have been referred to the
CIS during 2011 and so far during 2012 due to homelessness

How can you receive loan or perhaps cash loan?

Rating Score :

A?proval : 99.9 %.

Get Cash in : less then 24 hours

Benefits : No faxing , No credit check , Real fast money ... and more !

According to your condition of home, job status as well as profits, you'll be able to be eligible for a loan as high as $1500, even though some creditors will loan no more than $500. You will have a possiblity to observe how much you be eligible for a before agreeing to just about any bank loan agreement.

There's an essential legal distinction from a gift and also a loan. A really nice family member or friend could give you $5000 for car repairs, for example. If there isn't any expectation of payment, the cash can be viewed a gift. The giver couldn't file suit with regard to repayment after within a city suit. However when the borrowed funds supplier designates the money just like a loan and also the consumer pays back again even a buck, the cash can be viewed as a real loan and also the loan company may need payment anytime. Small statements courts invest a lot of period determining no matter whether the transaction which includes money will be a gift or perhaps bank loan. For this reason papers is essential when creating personal lending options to buddies as well as family.

The needs for getting that loan are quite obvious. In case you are employed, having a regular monthly revenue involving $800 or higher, and also have a bank-account, you satisfy the fundamental requirements. Some loan providers within our network could have extra requirements.

Money financial products are unsecured financial loans eliminated upon the next wage. Since they're short-term financial products, they can be little; varying from $100 to $1500 and also repayment comes to the next pay day. They may be very helpful regarding conquering a quick financial unexpected emergency, but really should not be thought to be the long-term fiscal solution.

no fax payday loans instant approval

Most loan programs are addressed through banks or other professional loan providers. They could make use of a variety of criteria to determine if your potential customer is actually skilled for a financial loan. Previous credit score is nearly always considered, together with current revenue and assets. The objective of the borrowed funds can be an issue-a established investment chance could have much more appeal than an misdirected idea for any new cafe. One essential consideration may be the earnings in order to debt ratio from the client. Can the customer have the ability to pay the bank loan back again along with interest? Skilled loan providers essentially 'sell' money, so consumers should be aware just how much financing truly 'costs' with regards to a real income.

Wall Street declines as European debt fears heat up

NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks fell on Wednesday as renewed turbulence in the euro zone over financial bailouts led investors to book profits from recent gains as a strong third quarter nears an end.

Violent protests in Madrid against expected austerity measures and growing talk of secession in Catalonia increased pressure on Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy as he maneuvers before asking euro zone policymakers for rescue money.

Meanwhile, Greece faced its biggest anti-austerity protest in more than a year as international lenders admitted to difficulty in working out how to solve Athens' debt crisis.

"There is still a real risk that Europe has to make some decisions that could hold the market together ... over the next few weeks as it relates to Greece and certainly Spain," said T. Doug Dale, chief investment officer for Security Ballew in Jackson, Mississippi.

"There are still enough unknowns out there that it doesn't take a whole lot to get the S&P back off."

The Dow Jones industrial average shed 11.25 points, or 0.08 percent, to 13,446.30. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index lost 6.06 points, or 0.42 percent, to 1,435.53. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 26.02 points, or 0.83 percent, to 3,091.71.

The S&P 500 is up more than 5 percent for the third quarter and nearly 2 percent for September, historically a weak month for equities, largely due to actions taken by the U.S. Federal Reserve and European Central Bank to prop up their economies.

But the benchmark index has fallen 1.8 percent since the Fed's most recent stimulus plan on September 13 as earnings warnings from bellwethers such as FedEx Corp and Caterpillar Inc have sparked concerns about global growth.

Jabil Circuit tumbled 9.3 percent to $19.01 after the technology company reported fourth-quarter earnings that missed expectations and forecast weak first-quarter results.

Investors' sentiment was reflected in the session's best performing sectors, which were defensive plays such as utilities, telecoms and consumer staples.

Longer term, the equity outlook is positive. While the S&P 500 isn't expected to move much from its current level through to the end of the year, according to a Reuters poll of analysts, it is seen advancing in the first half of 2013, largely on central bank actions.

Stocks fell despite a government report that prices of new U.S. single-family home sales vaulted to their highest level in more than five years in August.

American Greetings Corp jumped 13.5 percent to $16.27 after the company said it received an offer to go private from a group led by its chief executive, valuing the greetings card company at about $580 million.

Yahoo Inc new Chief Executive Marissa Mayer laid out goals for the Internet company in her first company wide address Tuesday and chose a new chief financial officer. Shares slipped 0.3 percent to $15.63.

Coming Together as a Community Helps Build Us Up as a Nation

community dayCitizens actively engaged with their communities sustain American values. Whether it is at the local church bake sale, or voting in a presidential election, Americans taking part in things that are distinctly American build us up as a community. Yes, America as a whole is a community -- a large one -- but still a community.?

For the most part, we Americans all want the same things: Health, happiness, and a better tomorrow for our children. We want equal opportunity, poverty to be eradicated, a robust economy, and for people to stop abusing animals because that ASPCA commercial with Sarah McLachlan always make us feel awful.

By participating in local, state, and federal government, we set up the infrastructure to function in business and recreation. A town may vote to appropriate funds for a little league field, where families and friends will gather to cheer on the kids rounding bases and catching grounders. The kids will learn competitiveness, how to be gracious winners and not to be sore losers, coordination, and they?ll get some exercise to ward off that national security risk of obesity.

Families and communities helping one another, lifting each other up, cheering successes and soothing when tragedies occur, encouraging kids to set goals for themselves and giving them the tools they need to accomplish them ? these things are embodied in the American Dream.?

Through participating in democracy, we elect officials who hopefully hold dear the same values that we do.

The government can only do so much, and taken too far it can harm the very values it seeks to protect. How does shutting down kids? lemonade stands help advance anyone?s idea of American values?

It is through both participation in democracy and engagement with our friends and families that American values are upheld.

Obama out to squash GOP hopes for Wisconsin pickup

MILWAUKEE ?

President Barack Obama worked to squash GOP aspirations for a resurgence of support in pivotal Wisconsin on Saturday as campaign rival Mitt Romney pinned his hopes of making inroads there on an argument that hard-pressed middle-class voters would do better with a Republican in the White House.

With just six weekends left before Election Day, both men also were devoting considerable time to raising campaign cash to bankroll the deluge of ads already saturating hotly contested states. Baseball great Hank Aaron was supplying the star power at two Obama fundraisers in Milwaukee while Romney headed to San Diego and Los Angeles to tap into West Coast cash, if not votes.

With running mates Joe Biden and Paul Ryan campaigning in New England and Florida, respectively, the presidential campaign was spread far and wide - both geographically and strategically. Biden revved up union activists poised to canvass for votes in New Hampshire while Ryan appealed to Hispanic voters in Miami and talked space policy in Orlando.

It was Obama's first visit to Wisconsin since February, and the president was intent on shoring up support in Ryan's home state. Obama won Wisconsin easily in 2008 and recent polls have him ahead by single digits, but Ryan is popular.

"We've always thought that Wisconsin would be harder for us this year than it was four years ago," said Obama campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Psaki.

In advance of Obama's visit, Romney's campaign made the argument that Obama's failure to turn around the economy had Wisconsin voters looking for a different path. Republican Gov. Scott Walker said the president had a "Wisconsin problem." The state's 7.5 percent unemployment rate is below the national average, but its manufacturing industry has been hit hard in recent years.

The Republican National Committee released a web video, "Since You've Been Gone," highlighting recent GOP organizing efforts in the state and Walker's success in fending off a recall election there.

Ryan, campaigning in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, reinforced Romney's argument that Obama hasn't been able to make needed changes in Washington, poking at the president's recent comment that it's hard to change Washington from the inside without mobilizing public pressure on Congress from the outside.

"Why do we send presidents to the White House in the first place?" Ryan asked. "We send presidents to change and fix the mess in Washington, and if this president has admitted that he can't change Washington, then you know what? We need to change presidents."

He also faulted Obama for a "policy of appeasement" toward the Castro regime in Cuba, saying all the president had done was "reward more despotism."

Obama has eased restrictions to allow Americans to travel to Cuba and to let Cuban-Americans to send money to family on the island. But the president has stopped well-short of discussing lifting the 50-year-old economic embargo, which is widely viewed in Latin America as a failure and has complicated U.S. relationships in the region.

Psaki said the president had supported democracy movements on the island and worked to give people there more say in their futures.

In an appearance in Orlando, not far from Florida's space coast, Ryan criticized the president for putting the U.S. space program "on a path where we are conceding our global position as the unequivocal leader in space." The Obama campaign responded that Ryan has proposed deep cuts in spending for space exploration.

Underscoring the importance of grass-roots efforts in the campaign's final days, Biden rallied union workers at a Teamsters union hall in Manchester, N.H., saying their organizing work would be the "antidote" to millions spent on advertising by Republican-leaning super PACs.

Biden said it was because of unions that the U.S. has a strong middle class, and he accused Romney and Ryan of having "a completely different value set, a completely different vision."

"They're doubling down on everything that caused the economic crisis in the first place," he said.

Romney is dedicating most of this weekend to courting donors in California - a state that he's not trying to win. He attended a private fundraiser in suburban San Francisco Friday night and planned to attend at least two more on Saturday in San Diego and Los Angeles.

The GOP nominee is feeling fundraising pressure: Last month, for the first time, Obama and the Democratic Party raised more than Romney and the Republican Party, $114 million to $111.6 million.

Romney's schedule - particularly his focus on fundraising over traditional campaigning with voters - has caught the attention of conservative opinion leaders.

"The logic of Romney's fundraising has seemed, for some time, slightly crazy," conservative Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan wrote recently. "He's raising money so he can pile it in at the end, with ads. But at the end will they make much difference?"

Facing such criticism, the Romney campaign added a stop in Colorado late Sunday and will launch a three-day bus tour through Ohio on Monday. Over the past week, the Republican nominee attended just three public rallies, one televised forum and delivered a speech to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles.

As Romney was preparing to board his flight from San Francisco to San Diego, a reporter asked whether he was going to begin campaigning more aggressively. Romney smiled, said nothing, and walked away.

UK stocks rebound as futures, options expiries loom

* FTSE 100 index rallies 0.5 percent

* Miners bounce back after falls in previous session

* Pearson boosted by Exane BNP Paribas upgrade

LONDON Sept 21 (Reuters) - Britain's top share index rose in

early deals on Friday, tracking modest gains on Wall Street and

in Asia, though trading could turn volatile ahead of

'quadruple-witching' stock futures and options expiries due

around 0915 GMT.

At 0751 GMT, the FTSE 100 index was up 27.77 points,

or 0.5 percent, at 5,882.41, having shed 0.6 percent on

Thursday, with early volume at 7.4 percent of the 90-day daily

average.

"Volume and volatility is likely to pick up with the

'quadruple witching' today, when positions are adjusted and

settlements established," Andrew Crook, a trader at Sucden

Financial Private Clients said.

Expiries are due on monthly and quarterly stock and index

futures and options.

"Once that is out of the way, investors are likely to pause

for breath ahead of the weekend with the (central bank) stimulus

bounce probably worked through and fresh direction sought."

Miners, up 0.9 percent, led the bounce back as

copper rallied from a drop in the previous session,

spurred by hopes for major economies to continue stimulus moves

that could boost global demand for metals.

The sector was the worst performer on Thursday after weak

manufacturing data from top consumer China dented demand hopes.

PEARSON BOOSTED

Pearson was a big individual blue chip gainer, up

1.7 percent as Exane BNP Paribas upgraded its rating for the

British publishing group to "outperform" from "neutral", with an

21 percent hike in its target price to 210 pence.

"We turn more bullish on growth opportunities at Pearson

International Education and see the group as a key beneficiary

from the move to digital learning. In addition, we expect a

likely rebound in U.S. School in 2013," Exane said in a note.

Broker comment also accounted for the biggest FTSE 100

faller, with National Grid shedding 1.0 percent as

JPMorgan Cazenove cut its stance on the power group to

"underperform" from "neutral".

Regulatory decisions were due for its UK regulated

businesses in December, its Rhode Island businesses in January

and its upstate New York businesses in March.

"Early indications have not been positive with challenging

preliminary announcements in all three jurisdictions," JPMorgan

said in a note, recommending investors switch to water firm

Pennon in the UK.

Pennon shares gained 0.2 percent.

Some commentators remained cautious and expected fresh falls

on the FTSE 100 index, which was down 0.6 percent on the week

after hitting a six-month peak last Friday after the U.S.

Federal Reserve announced new stimulus measures.

"I'm still of the view that we're in the midst of a

correction after the 5 percent rise from 5 September," Mike van

Dulken, Head of Research at Accendo Markets, said.

Short-term graphs suggested "potential for the continued

fallback to 5,760. Not nice for those who are long, but nothing

out of the ordinary in the longer-term uptrend."
